How it works
Facial skin peel treatments, or chemical peels, use physician-grade chemical agents to resurface and, at times, remove the top layers of the skin.
Levitt Medical Aesthetics offers two strengths:
Our P2 iS Clinical Prodigy Peel exfoliates only the outermost layer of the skin to help improve pigmentation, fine lines, acne, and dry skin. These peels typically contain medical-grade glycolic acid, salicylic acid, lactic acid, and/or mandelic acid to stimulate skin cell turnover.
The recovery time for a light peel is 1 to 3 days depending on your skin type and lifestyle.
Medium Peels, like the P3 iS Clinical Prodigy Peel, penetrate deeper into the skin and can target acne scars & wrinkles. These use special concentrations and mixtures of exfoliating acids and work by removing damaged skin cells from both the epidermis and the upper layers of the dermis.
Recovery time for a medium peel is 4 to 7 days.

What to expect
Chemical peels work by replacing dull, tired skin cells with bright, glowing new ones!
It reduces the appearance of existing sun damage and scarring, improves skin texture, and stimulates collagen production.
After receiving a chemical peel in Albany, OR at Levitt Medical Aesthetics, you’ll notice a visible improvement in your skin tone and texture.
You’ll know the chemical peel has done its job because your face, neck, chest, or hands will look brighter and clearer and will feel smooth to the touch. If you and Dr. Levitt decide on a deeper peel, you may experience dryness, redness, peeling, or flaking for 4 to 7 days. This is simply your skin processing the peel. It is extremely important you do not pick, peel off the skin, or try to slough it off with cleansers. After your skin naturally flakes and heals, it will look clearer and smoother, achieving an almost “airbrushed” look that will leave you feeling confident and youthful, even without makeup.
Results of our iS Clinical Prodigy Peels come in just a few days after your treatment and continue to improve over the next week or two.
Regular chemical peels at our Albany office will compound the results and ensure they last a long time.

FAQ
Generally, fair-skinned and light-haired patients are better candidates for chemical peels. If you have darker skin, you may also experience excellent results, depending upon the type of problem being treated. However, those will darker skin may also be more likely to have an uneven skin tone after the procedure. Dr. Levitt can present alternative options, like laser treatments, to treat your concerns with less risk of discoloration.
Dermaplaning appointments take approximately 15 to 30 minutes, with patients able to return home or to their normal schedules immediately afterward. During the quick treatment, Dr. Levitt first cleanses the skin and dries it thoroughly. He then pulls the skin taut and uses a scalpel and quick strokes to gently exfoliate the uppermost layer of dead skin cells without actually piercing the surface or causing irritation to the skin. The procedure is painless and does not require any topical anesthesia or numbing. Most patients find dermaplaning to be very comfortable and relaxing. After Dr. Levitt has gently shaved all areas of the face until they are smooth and clear, patients can leave their appointment and resume all normal activities.
The right chemical peel for you will depend on your skin type and your goals. If you want exfoliation and a deep-cleaned glow, a light chemical peel is likely the best option. If you have more serious pigment irregularities, rough texture, wrinkles, or acne scars, we may recommend a medium or deep peel. Dr. Levitt will walk you through all of your options.
Again, this depends on the strength of chemical exfoliant used. A light peel may be a great option monthly or every 6 weeks to maintain a bright complexion, while we may perform a deeper peel every 4 months or as signs of damage return.
You should not judge the success of a peel by the amount of peeling skin, but by the end results that the peel will produce. The amount of peeling may vary depending on individual skin condition at the time of the peel or the depth of the peel. Regardless of the degree of peeling, the skin is still sloughing off at a sped up rate, resulting in the improvement of skin tone and texture and an improvement of fine lines and uneven pigmentation.
The application of the solution to the skin’s surface sometimes has a tingling or slightly stinging feeling, but it is not painful. After the skin peels, there may be some slight redness and irritation to the skin as the new layer of cells form. With light chemical peels that only affect the top layer of skin, you can go about your normal routine the same day. If we perform a deeper peel, Dr. Levitt will discuss pain management options with you to ensure your comfort throughout the treatment.
